UGC - NET (ENVIRONMENT SCIENCE)
Dear Learners,
The University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) is an exam designed to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for various academic roles, such as:
- Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. programs.
- Admission to Ph.D. programs only.
Candidates qualifying for JRF are eligible for Ph.D. admission based on an interview under UGC guidelines. However, those qualifying for the "Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admission" category are not eligible for JRF. Similarly, those qualifying under the "Ph.D. admission only" category cannot apply for JRF or Assistant Professor roles.
Marking Scheme:
- Each question is worth 2 marks.
- Correct responses earn 2 marks, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
Eligibility:
Candidates from the General/Unreserved/General-EWS categories must have at least 55% in their Master's degree, while candidates from OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD, or Third Gender categories require at least 50%.
Candidates currently pursuing or awaiting results for their Master's degrees can apply provisionally, with the condition of achieving the required marks within a specified time after the results are declared.
Candidates with a 4-year bachelor's degree must have at least 75% aggregate marks for eligibility, with a 5% relaxation for reserved categories. For more details, refer to the UGC regulations.

UGC NET Adda247
PW UGC NET
Paper 2: The syllabus includes:

For Paper 2, I suggest focusing on standard textbooks and online materials. Some books I referred to during my preparation are:
- Catalyst (UGC NET/JRF Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences)
- Trueman's UGC NET/SET/JRF Environmental Science
Rather than reading too many books, I recommend focusing on understanding the core concepts.
Best of luck with your preparation!
